Self made gates for small weirs

Many streams lead very different amounts of water in the course of the year. In some cases an easy dam, explained as a prank weir, cannot lead this excessive water masses away completely. Excessive of the upper water level and with it a flooding of the canal to the power station causes.

The adjustable gate allows the flooding of itself when the upper water level rises slowly. Nevertheless, with increasing upper water levels,  the adjustable gate can be raised and release thereby a bigger drain cross section.

So that the construction expenditure keeps to a certain extent, these adjustable gates can be produced in small dimensions also themselves. The gates are  hand-operated and create therefore the reasonable possibility to lead away also bigger quantities of water safely in the underwater:

  1. U-Steel 100 x 50mm:
for a gate with the dimension: width 1000 mm and height 500 mms; It is for the guidance of the wooden board and as an abutment for the shaft (spindle). It is concreted the military body with.

  2. Shaft 30mm:
The shaft is operated by a crank and can roll up a 6 mm steel wire. This lifts the wooden board upwards.

  3. Wooden board:
The board exists of several wooden dam beams. These have holes by which the steel wire is led downwards to the lowest beam.

  4. Steel wire (stainless):
The steel wire here has a diameter of 6 mm, and pulls the dam beams upwards. With it, the gate (wooden board) can be simply opened.

  5. Steel set rings:
These rings prevent that the shaft can move sidewards.

  6. Lowest dam beam:
The steel wire is fastened only at the lowest dam beam. With this, the board will not cant in the U-Steel guidance. Dam beams should be made out of a none swelling wood with good resistant to water (e.g., beech or oak).

  7. Crank:
With only low hand strength a heavy wooden board can be simply raised. By it´s heavy self  weight it is easy to lower. The position of the crank can be simply fixed with a chain. Alternatively a gear engine can be used for decentral remote control applications
